Artist Statement
I started making pottery in 2023. I use a variety of building techniques. Most of my pieces include precise, intricate designs which I hand paint using a fine brush and underglaze. The design and drawing stage of the process takes the longest.
Sometimes I’ll spend 20 hours painting a small vase. I find painting relaxing, even meditative, and finishing a piece is incredibly satisfying. There are many more failures than successes: pieces break, shapes don’t work, colors aren’t vibrant, glaze combinations don’t work, slips peel, and the list goes on. There are a million ways for something to go wrong along the way, but that’s why it’s so satisfying when something turns out beautifully.
